Methodology & Assumptions

All figures are derived from published industry benchmarks and Geotab Vitality program data. The table and formulas below explain every number used in your estimate.

Industry Segment Baseline Assumptions ▾
SegmentTypical Operations Miles/Yr MPG Blended Collision CostPCR (crashes/100k km) Turnover RateReplace Cost Gas %Diesel %EV/Hybrid % Sources

PCR (Predictive Collision Rate) = model-predicted crashes per 100,000 km driven, sourced from Geotab fleet telemetry across 44,000+ commercial fleets across 5 regions (Apr 2026). Collision savings = PCR × fleet km / 100,000 × blended collision cost × improvement %. Blended collision cost = weighted average of major (injury) and minor (PDO) costs by industry mix. 50% unavoidable churn factor applied to retention savings. Costs are employer-facing (repair, medical, legal, downtime, admin) — not societal/QALY values. Regional costs sourced independently: NETS/FMCSA (US), CRISP/IBC (CA), DfT TAG 2023/HSE (UK), SafetyCube/ETSC (EU), BITRE/NRSPP (AU). S & E Europe, Mexico, and South Africa baselines are derived by regional analog: mileage, PCR, turnover and severity mix are proxied from the nearest telemetry region (S&E Europe ← W&N Europe; Mexico & South Africa ← US), and collision/replacement costs are scaled to local cost levels (S&E Europe ≈0.55–0.65× W&N Europe; Mexico ≈0.45–0.50× US; South Africa ≈0.25–0.30× US) using ETSC/SafetyCube (EU), INEGI/CANACAR (MX), and RTMC/RFA (ZA). These are illustrative estimates, not regional telemetry.

Calculation Formulas ▾
Fuel Savings
Drivers × (Miles ÷ MPG) × Blended fuel cost × Fuel Improvement %
Blended fuel cost = (Gas % × Gas price) + (Diesel % × Diesel price). EV/hybrid vehicles contribute $0 to blended fuel cost — naturally excluded. Fleet-type MPG and annual miles are defaults from the table above. US prices are per gallon. UK, CA, EU, and AU prices are per litre, converted to per-gallon equivalent internally.
Collision Risk Savings
(Drivers × Annual km ÷ 100,000) × PCR × Blended Collision Cost × Collision Reduction %
PCR (Predictive Collision Rate) = crashes per 100,000 km from Geotab fleet telemetry. Annual km = segment-average miles × 1.60934. Mileage scales the expected collision count — higher-mileage fleets have proportionally more exposure. Blended collision cost = weighted average of major (injury) and minor (PDO) costs by industry mix. Methodology matches Wellington Motor Fleet pilot (May 2026).
Driver Retention Savings
Drivers × Turnover Rate × Retention Improvement % × 50% × Driver Replace Cost
50% unavoidable churn factor accounts for retirements, medical departures, and relocations that no program can prevent. Source: Geotab Vitality King Township case study methodology. Applies to all vehicle types.
Program Cost & ROI
Program Cost = Drivers × Regional monthly rate × 12  |  ROI = (Gross − Cost) ÷ Cost × 100
Net Savings = Gross Savings − Program Cost. Payback = (Annual Program Cost ÷ Annual Gross Savings) × 12 — months for gross savings to cover the annual fee (e.g. 100% ROI = 6-month payback, 200% ROI = 4-month payback). Regional monthly rates: $15 USD · CA$15 · €13.75 · £9.75 · A$15 per driver.
